La Folia

La Folia is a young chamber ensemble that specialises in recreating the music of the enlightenment (1600 - 1800) using historical instruments and performing principles. La Folia's performances are characterised by unconventional approaches to concert format, sharing original research findings and infectious levels of enthusiasm generated in performance.

La Folia began as a group of enthusiastic early music students at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. These musicians bring to the ensemble a vast experience of chamber music and orchestral performance, and individual research into the performance practices of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.

Their combined experience draws from working with various instrumentalists, singers, dancers and actors; all professional performers with groups such as the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, Salut! Baroque, the Early Dance Consort, The Bell Shakespeare Company, The Tall Poppeas, the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, the New Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra of Cologne, the St. Laurence Baroque Orchestra as well as national and international conductors and soloists.
